How to Order Biryani for a Downtown Office Lunch

Biryani is rice, spices, and a protein or vegetables cooked so the grains stay separate. It is a complete plate, which is why it works when an office wants one order instead of twelve custom bowls. Saffron, the dried stigma of the saffron crocus, is one of the spices that shows up in this style of rice (Saffron).

Namaste Nola is at 201 Baronne Street. Lunch ordering has to land before 2:45 PM. After that, the kitchen is closed until dinner at 5:00 PM.

How to split the order

Ask who eats meat and who does not before you send the order. Chicken or lamb biryani covers most of the table. A vegetarian biryani, or a paneer curry with rice, covers the rest. Naan is the extra that makes the tray feel like a meal rather than a single dish. The full list is on the menu.

The U.S. Dietary Guidelines describe a healthy pattern as one that includes vegetables, fruits, grains, protein, and dairy in amounts that fit a person's needs (Dietary Guidelines for Americans). An office lunch is not a nutrition clinic. The practical version is: offer a vegetarian tray, put the meat tray next to it, and label both.

Pickup, not a guessing game

Place the order on Toast with the building name and a phone number that someone will actually answer. If the group is large enough to need a set menu and a room, that is a private event, not a lunch pickup.

Walk-in tables at noon still go through Resy when you want to eat in the dining room instead of at a desk.
